Here is my translation of the psalm paraphrase, “Wer sich des Höchsten Schirm vertraut” (Cornelius Becker, d. 1604), based on Psalm CXI, Qui habitat in adjutorio, with title “Angelic service . . .” and melody assignment “Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr.”
WHO in the Most High’s secret place
Doth dwell, and hideth ever
In troubles ’neath His shelt’ring grace,
God can and will deliver.
He tells the Lord with confidence,
Thou art My Rock, my sure Defense,
My God in whom I’m trusting.
2 The hellish hunter tries in vain
Within his nets to take me,
In every place my soul would gain,
But God doth ne’er forsake me.
His righteous, true deliverance
Protect me from the pestilence,
Howe’er it may be raging.
3 He with His feathers covers thee
And ’neath His wings doth hide thee,
Like as His chickens graciously
He guards the life supplied thee.
His truth, our shield and buckler is,
From hosts of hell defending His;
He keeps His promise surely.
4 If God command thee, fear thee not
By night for all affliction;
Though Satan ’gainst thee rave and plot,
And shoot without restriction,
And though his error fly by day,
And in the noontide cause dismay,
God will defend thee ever.
5 A thousand may fall at thy side,
And yet a thousand other
At thy right hand in death abide,
Yet naught thy life shall smother.
Thou shalt with thine own eyes behold
Thy pleasure, and the foes so bold
Who feared not God, shall suffer.
6 A Christian puts his trust in God,
Makes Him his habitation,
He trusts in Him despite the rod,
And fears no tribulation;
No evil shall come nigh to thee,
Thy foot meet no calamity,
That to thy dwelling neareth.
7 He shall His angels give command
To keep thy ways forever,
In all disgrace to make thee stand;
No threat from Him shall sever.
Thy foot shall bruise the dev’lish brute,
Thou shalt tread adders underfoot,
And lions, yea, and dragons.
8 My grace, saith God, and faithfulness
I will be him supplying;
Whoever will My name confess,
I will receive His crying;
I will protect him mightily.
His hope shall never futile be,
Which he upon Me setteth.
9 I’ll be with him in trouble grim,
And give him every blessing,
And out of death deliver him
To honor never-ceasing.
With long life I will satisfy,
Abundant peace and joy supply,
And show him My salvation.

GERMAN
Wer ſich des Höchſten Schirm vertraut,
Sucht Schutz bey ihm in Nöthen,
Der hat für Unglück wohl gebawt,
GOtt kan und will ihn retten,
Getroſt er zu dem Herren ſpricht,
Du biſt mein Burg, mein Zuverſicht,
Mein Gott, auff den ich hoffe.
2 Der helliſch Jäger mühet ſich,
Stellt mir an allen Enden,
In ſeinem Strick zu fahen mich,
Die Gfahr mrin Gott thut wenden.
Durch ſeine Trew und große Gnad
Thut mir ſein Peſtilentz nicht Schad,
Ob ſie gleich grawſam wütet.
3 Er deckt uns mit den Flügeln ſein,
Leßt ſein Gnad ob uns ſchweben,
Gleichwie ein Henn ihr Küchelein,
Bewahrt Er unſer Leben,
Sein Warheit, unſer Schild und Schirm,
Schützt uns fürm helliſchen Geſchwirm,
Er helt, was er zuſaget.
4 Befiehl dich Gott, ſo grawt dir nicht
Des Nachts für böſer Plage,
Hett gleich Satan auff dich gericht
Ich will ihn ſchützen gwaltiglich,
Mein Heil will ich ihm zeigen.
