Here is my translation of the hymn, “Ich danke meinen Gott für euch” (J. Olearius, 1671) from the author’s Singekunst, for Trinity XVIII, a paraphrase of the Epistle from 1 Cor. 1:4–8.
Mel.: Herr Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht.
I THANK my God for you always,
For all the bounties of His grace
In Christ upon you made to show’r,
By Him enriched at every hour—
2 Enriched are ye in all, forsooth,
In all right doctrine, life, and truth,
E’en as Christ’s preaching was in you
With pow’r confirmed and proven true.
3 So that ye no wise come behind,
But teeming gifts among you find,
And wait until the hour concealed,
When Jesus’ coming is revealed.
4 He shall confirm and keep you fast
Nor will forsake you till the last,
That blameless and unstained ye may
Salute the awesome Judge’s Day.

GERMAN
Ich danke meinen Gott für euch,
für seinen Gnad, die allzugleich
in Christo euch gegeben ist,
daß ihr reich seid zu aller Frist.
2 In allen Stücken recih gemacht,
an aller Lehr und Lebenskraft,
wie denn die Predigt Jesu Christ
in euch recht kräftig worden ist.
3 Daß ihr nun keinen Mangel habt,
ihr seid mit Gaben reich begabt,
ihr wartent nur noch immerdar,
bis Jesus werde offenbar.
4 Der euch auch wird behalten fest
ans Ende, der euch nicht verläßt,
daß ihr unsträflich ohne Klag
kommt an des großen Richters Tag.
