Here is my translation of the hymn, “Gott Vater, der du deiner Schar” (B. Ringwaldt, 1682), from the author’s Evangelia, the prayer-hymn for Trinity VII.
Mel.: Nun freut euch, lieben Christen gmein.
O GOD the Father, who hast sworn
Here to Thy congregation
That, when our crosses must be borne,
Thou shalt give consolation,
And with it also daily bread,
Help, and defense in time of dread,
Because of Thy great mercy.
2 Grant us pure air, the sunshine warm,
Good dew, and rain abounding,
That fruit may prosper without harm,
Thy blessing all surrounding
All that the laborer hath cast
Upon Thy Word on earth so vast
From morning-tide till evening.
3 Without Thee all his strength and skill,
Sweat, toiling, and endeavor
Are vain, unless to plow and till
Thou grant Thy gracious favor
And wake the seed upon the plain,
That in its course it may attain
To ripeness and great increase.
4 Lord, in Thy wrath rebuke us not,
To mercy be attending,
From fire and frost, from blight and rot
The precious grain defending,
From hail and storm and heavy flood
And all that to a harvest good
Would harmful be, and hinder.
5 Preserve us, Lord, from perils all,
Our sins forgive and pardon,
Let rain be not too great nor small,
The soil to drown or harden.
Nor kindle fire by lightning-blast,
That by Thy blessing we at last
May fill both barn and barrel.
6 Grant graciously what now Thy hand
For us intends to flourish,
And all the creatures in the land
Thereby sustain and nourish,
Then shall to Thee both great and small,
And old and young among us all
Give fitting adoration.
7 Thou highest Good, we trust in Thee!
Thy grace still richly send us.
Our wants Thou knowest certainly,
And long hast well sustained us,
And still wilt keep and rule us so,
That we Thy blessing well may know,
And to Thy name give glory.
Amen.

GERMAN
Gott Vater, der du deiner Schar
hast zugesagt auf Erden,
daß sie von dir soll immerdar
im Kreuz getröstet werden,
darneben auch das täglich Brot
samt Schutz und Rettung in der Noth
genädig überkommen:
2 Gib reine Luft, warm Sonnenschein,
gedenk an deine Güte,
den Weinstock und das liebe Korn
vor hartem Frost behüte,
so wohl vor Hagel, Sturm und Fluth,
vor Mülthau und was schaden thut
den Früchten in gemeine.
5 Vor großer Dürrheit uns bewahr,
vergib uns unser Sünde,
auf daß nicht etwa mit Gefahr
das Wetter was entzünde,
halt auch das Erdreich nicht zu naß,
auf daß wir mögen Scheun und Faß
durch deinen Segen füllen.
6 Gib gnädig, was uns deine Hand
jetzt thut gar lieblich weisen,
und thu darmit im ganzen Land
die Kreaturen speisen,
so wird dich loben groß und klein
die alten und die Kinderlein,
und was auf Erden lebet.
7 Wir trauen dir, du höchstes Gut,
dein Gnad die mag es walten,
du weißt wohl was uns mangeln thut,
hast lang Zeit hausgehalten,
und wirst noch ferner so regiern,
daß man wird deinen Segen spürn
und deinen Namen preisen. Amen.
