Wie soll ich mein Gott dir danken?

Here is my translation of the hymn, “Wie soll ich mein Gott dir danken?” (J. Olearius, 1671), from the author’s Singekunst for the feast of Pentecost, based on the Gospel for Whitsunday. His other hymns for the occasion there are “Freuet euch, ihr Gotteskinder / freuet euch ihr Christen all” and “Laß mich, o treuer Gott,” which are found translated on this blog.

Mel.: Ach, was soll ich Sünder machen.

O MY God, how shall I thank Thee,
Who Thy love and mercy true
Ever daily dost renew?
Oh, what joy for seasons lengthy
Spirit, mind, and heart possess
In Thy love and graciousness!

2 ’Twas Thy love my Comfort gave me,
And my Mercy-seat alone—
Jesus, Thy beloved Son;
’Tis Thy love that still to save me,
Gives me faith and constancy,
That I live eternally.
