Gelobet sei der treue Gott

Here is my translation of the canticle paraphrase, “Gelobet sei der treue Gott” (C. Spangenberg, 1582), canticle no. 29, with title: “Ezra’s thanksgiving that God directed the heart of King Artaxerxes to support the building of the Temple, Ezra 7.” The assigned melody is “Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ.”

 

BLEST be the true and faithful God,
Who His grace hath spread abroad,
That pious Christian rulers may
Unto the Church do good this day,
Kyrieleis!

2 May God the faithful Father still
Grant that His good Word and will
In peace and quiet everywhere
May be both taught and heard with care,
Kyrieleis!

der solch Gnad verliehen hat,
daß fromme Christlich Oberkeit,
der Kirchen Guts thut diese Zeit,

2 Es wollt der treue Vater fort,
geben, daß sein Guottlich Wort
im Fried und Ruh an allem Ort
fleißig gelehrt werd und gehort,
Kyrieleis.
