Here is my translation of the canticle paraphrase, “Mit Lust und Freuden singet nun” (C. Spangenberg, 1582), his ninth Old Testament canticle, based on Moses’ sister Miriam’s responsive canticle, Ex. 15, with subtitle: “It is a thanksgiving that God has cast down our enemies.” The appointed melody is “Mit Fried und Freud ich fahr dahin.”
WITH joy and gladness praise the Lord,
God’s glory singing,
His wondrous works due praise afford,
Honor bringing,
For He hath both horse and man
Thrown in the deep sea’s waters.

GERMAN
Mit Lust und Freuden singet nun,
Gott unserm Herren,
und rühmet sehr sein herrlichs Thun,
ihm zu Ehren,
Denn er hat beid Roß und auch Manns
ins tiefe Meer gestürzet.
