Here is my translation of the canticle paraphrase, “Gelobet sei der ewig Gott” (C. Spangenberg, 1582), Spangenberg’s third, based on Genesis 24, titled “The Psalm of Eliezer, Abraham’s servant,” with subtitle, “It is a psalm of thanksgiving for God’s mercy, truth, and government.” The appointed melody is “Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ.”
BLEST be th’ eternal God, who hath
Kept His covenant of faith
With Abr’ham, sire of saints indeed
By Christ, the woman’s blessed Seed,
Kyrieleis.
2 His mercy and His truth hath He
Kept to us most faithfully,
He will forsake us nevermore,
His Word He keepeth ever sure,
Kyrieleis.
3 He leads us on the even way;
Let us trust Him night and day!
The right way clear to us He’ll make,
And never will His own forsake,
Kyrieleis.

GERMAN
Gelobet sei der ewig Gott,
der sein Bund gehalten hat,
der Gläubgen Vater Abraham,
durch den gesegnten Weibes Saam,
Kyrieleis.
2 Gar treulich sein Barmherzigkeit
er uns hält, und sein Wahrheit
verlässet er auch nimmermehr,
treulich sein Wort erfüllet er,
Kyrieleis.
3 Er führet uns auf rechter Straß,
drum auf ihn man sich verlaß,
den rechten Weg zeigt er uns an,
will uns auch nimmermehr verlahn,
Kyrieleis.
