Freuen wir uns all in ein

 Here is my translation of the Bohemian Brethren hymn, "Freuen wir uns all in ein" (M. Weisse, 1531, after G. Kamorovsky's text "Radujme se vzdy spoleene," 1457), a hymn of prayer and praise, which was customarily used at the nomination of a preacher. It is known in the 1995 Moravian hymnal in the translation "Come Let Us All With Gladness Raise" (tr. Evelyn Hasse), which unfortunately follows the earlier translation "With unity of heart and voice" in changing the meter to LM and thus requires an alteration of the original Bohemian melody. This melody is also known in its otherwise altered form attached to the text "Hark a Thrilling Voice Is Calling." Here I present a form of the original text for the original melody.

LET us joy with one accord,
Praise and glory give the Lord,
God the Father and the Son
And the Spirit, Three in One.

2. For He mercy had on us
When the days were perilous,
Did to us His Law impart,
Writing it upon our heart.

3. In His might He made us all
Servants faithful to His call,
Help us, Lord, our labors speed,
That Thy work may still proceed!

4. To completion bring Thy will,
Thy beginning now fulfill,
For our confidence we place
Wholly, Lord, upon Thy grace.

5. Look with mercy, Savior kind,
On Thy people wand’ring blind,
Seeking but Thy saving way,
And Thy truth where’er they may.

6. See Thy sayings made impure,
Doctrines false Thy Word obscure;
Dearest Lord, O Shepherd kind,
Help them all Thy flock to find.

7. Shed Thy brilliant Word abroad!
Let them know Thee, very God,
As Thou art, and so repent,
And find rest within Thy tent.

8. God Almighty is Thy name,
Glorious Lord, Thy rightful claim;
King of countless hosts on high,
On the earth, in sea and sky.

9. Crush the antichrist so vile,
Error, too, and wicked guile;
Let no pow’r or worldly might
Persecute Thee day or night.

10. Help Thy chosen people lest
They too sorely be distressed
Grant them, from all evils free,
Here to bless and worship Thee.

11. God of ages, pow’r bestow,
Grant Thy Word in us to grow;
Let us follow its command,
That we may before Thee stand.

12. Grant us all with unity
To live virtuous in Thee,
And through Christ, Thy Son, be giv’n
Endless joy and crowns in heav’n.

und ein großer Herr erkannt,

9 O, zerstör den Antichrist,

all'n Irrthum und arge List;
o laß nicht weltliche Macht
Dich verfolgen Tag und Nacht. 

10 Hilf, daß Dein Volk auserwählt
nicht so klüglich werd' gequält,
sondern alles Uebels frei
Dich lob' und gebenedei'!

11 O ewiger Gott! gib Kraft,
hilf, daß Dein Wort in uns hast,
und wir demselben nachgehn,
also vor Dir wohlbestehn.

12 Verleih', daß wir allzugleich
in Dir leben tugendreich,
darnach dort finden zu Lohn
