Here is my translation of the canticle paraphrase, “Der Herr vom Himmel gar behend” (C. Spangenberg, 1582), based on Gen. 29, titled “Leah’s three brief psalms of thanksgiving summarized” with subtitle “It is a thanksgiving for God’s blessing granted in marriage.” The appointed melody is “Erhalt uns Herr.”
And looked upon my misery;
He heard and answered my request
Which I have sent Him with out rest.
2 Now to the Lord my thanks I give,
His name extol while yet I live;
His praise upon my lips shall be,
Since He hath blest me mightily!

GERMAN
Der Herr vom Himmel gar behend
hat angesehen mein Elend
und auch erhöret mein Gebet,
welchs ich zu ihm gethan hab stet.
2 Dafür ich ihm denn danken will,
sein Namen rühmen hoch un viel,
sein Lob soll in meim Munde sein,
daß er gesegnet mich so fein.
