O Jesu Christ, dein theures Blut

The next new hymn translation from Lochner’s Passion-book began as an alteration of Schuette’s translation of “O Jesu Christ, dein theures Blut” (J. Olearius, 1671), of which stanzas 1–2 conclude Devotion 50 (“The Parting of Jesus’ Garments”), but eventually seemed to cross the line into a new translation. Another translation by A. T. Russell begins “Lord Jesus Christ! Thy precious blood / Brings to my soul celestial good.” Since Olearius indicates a doxological stanza in his Exemplarische Betkunst, I give one here as well, based on one of three possible doxologies in that source.
