Here is my translation of the psalm paraphrase, “Kommt herzu, laßt uns fröhlich sein” (Cornelius Becker, d. 1604), a paraphrase of Psalm XCV, Venite exultemus Domino, with title “We are to listen to Christ” and melody assignment “Kommt her zu mir, spricht Gottes Sohn.” The melody is by H. Schütz (1628).
Updated 12 June 2024: Luther writes of the psalm itself,
It is a prophecy of Christ, which the Epistle to the Hebrews treats richly, prophesying of the time of the new covenant and of the voice of the Gospel. In short, he teaches and draws us to Christ, and to the Word of God , as to the right divine service, and warns us against the example of the unbelieving fathers in teh wilderness, who did not enter into the promised land either because of their unbelief and despising. — But you must apply the whole psalm to Christ and affirm that He is the same God whom it calls to be worshiped, who made us, and is our Shepherd, and we are His sheep, who is the One whom the unbelieving fathers persecuted, as Paul also says in 1 Corinthians 10:1 that there will henceforth be no divine service after the manner of Moses, but believing, joyful preaching, praising, and thanking will replace it.
COME, let us in our Rock rejoice,
And to our Savior raise our voice
Before His holy altar,
With thanks approach His holy place,
Withholding not to sing His praise
And play upon the psalter.
2. Our Lord, He is the mighty God,
The King who holds both crown and rod
O’er every earthly power.-
Within His hands He holds the reins
Of earth, and all its yield sustains,
All things that live and flower.-
3. The lofty mount and lowly vale
And sea their Lord and Maker hail,
Each witness of Him beareth;
His might prepared the solid land,
And all was fashioned by His hand,
As all His work declareth.
4. Come, let us kneel and bow before
The Lord our Maker, Him adore
With true humiliation,
He is our God from age untold
And we, the people of His fold,
His sheep and holy nation.
5. This day, if ye will hear His voice
Then harden not your heart by choice
When He by grace has stirred it
As first befell in Massah wild,
And Meribah, when ’twas reviled
As all your fathers heard it.
6. For wickedly they tested Me,
And saw My wonders visibly,
As forty years they wandered,
That people grieved Me in that day,
And yet their heart would err alway,
On this it ever pondered.
7. My holy way they would not learn,
But e’er the path of life would spurn,
No benefit it brought them,
For in My wrath to them I swore
To let them stray forevermore,
Nor heaven’s rest allot them.

GERMAN
1. Kommt herzu, laßt uns fröhlich sein,
Im Hort unsers Heils jauchzen fein,
Das ist des Herren Wille,
Mit Danken für sein Angesicht
Laßt uns kommen und schweigen nicht,
Jauchzet mit Psalterspiele.
2. Unser Herr ist ein großer Gott,
Ein König, der in Händen hat
Die Götter all auf Erden,
Es ist alles in seiner Macht,
Was jemals der Erdboden bracht
Und was noch drauf soll werden.
3. Die hohe Berg und tiefe Tal,
Das Meer und alles überall
Zeuget von seiner Stärke,
Sein Macht das Trockne hat bereit,
Der ganz Erdboden weit und breit
Ist seiner Hände Werke.
4. Kommt, laßt uns fallen auf die Knie,
Unsern Schöpfer anbeten hie
Mit niedrigen Gebärden,
Er ist unser Gott allezeit,
Und wir sind ein Volk seiner Weid
Und Schafe seiner Herde.
5. Heut, so ihr seine Stimme hört,
Seht zu, eur Herz ja nicht verkehrt,
Verstockt nicht eure Sinne,
Wie ehrmals in der Wüsten gschah
Zu Massa und zu Meriba,
Eur Väter wurden’s inne.
6. Denn sie gröblich versuchten mich,
Spürten doch mein Werk sicherlich
Wohl ganzer vierzig Jahre,
Ich hab mit ihn’n groß Müh gehabt,
Dennoch ihr Herz den irrign Pfad
Ist gangen immerdare.
7. Sie wollten niemals meine Weg
Recht lernen, noch des Lebens Steg,
Das bracht ihn’n keinen Frommen,
Denn ich in meinem Zorne schwur,
Sie sollten irren für und für,
Zu meiner Ruh nicht kommen.
